Our Services

  • Immunization and Wellness Care

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter packages; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

Dental hygiene is also one area that we have found is consistently a concern during our routine physical exams, and is often a problem that many pet owners are totally unaware exists.  Therefore, if we can help "prevent" poor dental hygiene rather than "treat" it, it not only makes for healthier animals, but it becomes more economical for pet owners as well.  Please ask any of our staff members about our "Dental Health Care Plan" during your office visit.

  • Surgery

We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology available to our profession.  Patients are routinely screened for any anesthetic risk, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. Surgical services and facilities include: board certified surgeons available for consultation; fully trained veterinary and technical staff to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet; advanced instrument sterilization techniques; ECG, respiratory, capnography, and oxygen saturation monitors; intensive after-surgery care and full blood testing.

Routine surgical procedures are regularly performed at our hospital to include ovariohysterectomy (spay), orchiectomy (neuter), onchyectomy (declawing), along with mass removals, ophthalmological procedures, and certain orthopedic procedures as well.  Please feel free to ask about the benefits of a gastropexy - attachment of the stomach to the body wall to prevent "bloat" in large-breed dogs, during your consultation with Dr. Arends.  More advanced surgeries are performed at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, such as intestinal / gastric foreign body removal, splenectomy, cystotomy, perineal urethrostomy, fracture repairs, femoral head ostectomy (FHO), among many others.  Please feel free to contact our office for questions about a procedure.

  • Dental Care

Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe ultrasound to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. After the ultrasonic scaling, our Registered Veterinary Technicians polish the teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface, therefore making the teeth more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Additionally, anesthetized patients undergoing routine dental prophylactic treatments receive a detailed oral examination, with documentation of any abnormalities noted during the exam.  Advanced dental care is also available, to include intraoral surgery, diseased / damaged tooth extractions, and implantation of synthetic bone graft materials to ensure structural stability of extraction sites.

  • Nutritional Counseling

Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. Our trained and knowledgeable staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active.

  • Boarding

We always attempt to accommodate our patients in every way possible, so we are pleased to offer boarding for established clients that have need of this service.  We maintain a dedicated feline area separate from the canine boarding area, to help minimize stress on our feline guests.  Our canine guests have the luxury of a large, fenced-in dog exercise yard to ensure they remain healthy and happy during their stay, even on the weekends.  The office is closed on Sundays, but there will always be someone to take care of the animals housed in the hospital / kennel multiple times throughout the day.  Additionally, while we are closed on Sundays, if you have a special need to pick up your pet on that day, we will happily make arrangements to have a staff member available to release your pet to you.*

*Special pick-up fee applies for Sunday releases.

  • Microchip Implantation

Every 2 seconds, a pet becomes lost or escapes from it's owners in some way.  We offer an ability to regain your lost pet through implantation of a unique microchip identification device.  These microchips contain a unique identification number, that will never break free from a collar or become lost if an owner loses the pet.  Once the chip has been implanted and your contact information has been given to the national registry database, your pet will always have an identification device with it, no matter how far away it may roam.  A simple telephone call is usually all that is required to have your beloved pet returned to you!  Please contact our staff for information regarding having a microchip implanted.

  • Domestic / International Health Certificates

Many states, and the majority of countries outside the United States require documentation of vaccines and examination by a veterinarian for pets that are traveling to those locations.  Please be sure that your pet does not require this documentation before taking them on vacation with you, and it is best to determine what is required well before your travel date.  However, if your destination does require this document, rest assured that we are here to help you.  Both of our veterinarians are capable of filling out these forms, and would love to assist you prior to your travel plans.
